  • Dr. Charles Zhao  储英执行校长

    Graduated from: University of Iowa (Ph.D., and MS in Mathematics); Edinboro State University of Pennsylvania (Master's degree in Education)

     

    Background: Dr. Zhao has been teaching all levels of Mathematics at Cambridge International Center of Shanghai Normal University (=Ulink) since August, 2010. He was a tenured math professor at a State University in Georgia (USA) from 1999-2010. He used to be a department chair at Guilin Campus at CIC (=Ulink). Dr. Zhao has experiences in teaching different levels of math. In 2015, one of his students received Top in the World Award at Cambridge IGCSE Level Mathematics CAIE Examinations. In 2018, Dr. Zhao had another student who earned Top in the World Award at Cambridge AS Level Mathematics CAIE Examinations. He has had many other students at University of Cambridge, University of Oxford, and other top schools in UK, US and Canada…

     

    Dr. Zhao’s teaching philosophy is “Learning Math by doing Math!” He believes that learning how to solve math problems is far more important than studying the theorems alone! He also tries to make lessons as interesting as it can be for his students by applying math knowledge into their real life whenever possible… 

  • Mohammed A Mustafa  生物、科学与英语老师

    I’m Mr Mohammed Ali Mustafa. Biology, Science, Computer, SEN teacher, and Teacher trainer. I have had more than 16 years teaching experience working here in the UK, as well as in the Middles East. I would describe myself as a well-educated Western person, along with master’s degree in Medical Biochemistry from Brunel University, and Foundation degree in Computer Sciences from Kingston university, and it’s worth mentioning that I have also updated my teaching qualifications skills by gaining PTLLS (Prepare to Teach Lifelong Learning Sector), CTLLS (Certificate in Teacing Lifelong Learning Sector, and DTLLS (Diploma in Teaching Lifelong Learning Sector) in 2014. I have an extensive work experience of teaching adults and children of varying cultural backgrounds and abilities (including learning difficulties and SEN learners). I have had about 6 years of work experience in the middle East including Iraq, Saudi Arabia Kingdom, and UAE.


    In UAE I worked as a Science curriculum development at the ministry of education in Dubai. My main duty involved in creating a new Science curriculum, in partnership with McGraw Hill-An American Educational Institute to create what so call an ASP Advance Science Program. Add to that I worked in the personnel development dept. in Sharjah Institute of Science and Technology (STS) as a professional development specialist in Science, life skills and lead teacher’s managements. organise formal meetings with Science teachers and lead teachers, interviewing and assessing Science and life skills teachers. In Saudi Arabia, I worked as an ESL Teacher at King Khalid University in Abha city. Whereas in Baghdad, Iraq I worked there as a Life Science teacher at Al-Furate Secondary School.

     

    In UK I worked in a main stream schools as a Biology, and Science teacher AQA, and GCSE level, also I worked in SEN school, where I improved my other skills, including medical, and personnel developments issues to handle any unexpected incident that it may take place among SEN learners, whether inside or outside of the school premises Generally, I am passionate teacher, can lead, motivate and manage learners inside the classroom. In general I am an active speaker and a good listener with solid communication, management and leadership skills, I have a can attitude, as well as highly self-motivates and enthusiastic, team building with an ability to understand people’s needs and building up trust based relationships, team players, collaborates well with colleagues, and have the ability to work with a minimum supervision or unsupervised.


    As a Biology, ESL and Science teacher I am aware about legislation, regulatory requirements and codes of practice including Health and Safety, Safeguarding, data protection acts. I have an excellent teaching strategies, such as (inclusive learning, functional skills, and ground rules), teaching resources, such as (Group works, drama games, pair assessment, and ppt) and techniques skills, such as (Facial expression, Eye contacts, and using hands as an effective method for encouraging learners). I can work under pressure and meeting demand deadlines, fellow health and safety procedures, eager to learn new skills, techniques, and meet new challenges in a dynamic work environment, ambitious and ideas driven and references.

  • Tawfiq Hendricks  英语教师

    Tawfiq Hendricks was born and raised in Cape Town, South Africa. With a passion for reading and writing, he completed his Bachelor Degree in English literature at the University of the Western Cape. He has been working as an English teacher for eight years, teaching students of various different ages particularly in the Gulf region, mainly Saudi Arabia and Oman. He has taught at universities, colleges, schools, English business programmes and training centres. He is a very creative and interactive teacher who loves integrating creativity and a desire for learning in the classroom. Tawfiq enjoys travelling, sports, swimming, writing, theatre, film directing and exploring Chinese culture. He is currently completing his debut high fantasy novel. 

  • Callum Lewis Brown  学校助理教师

    Callum is studying Mathematical Physics at the University of Edinburgh. He will graduate with a Bachelor of Science with Honours this summer. Callum is a graduate of the University of Edinburgh, having earned a Bachelor of Science with Honours in Mathematical Physics.


    While studying, Callum has been a member of the University of Edinburgh Mathematics Outreach Team, creating and presenting educational activities for children of all ages at many popular events. Having found this work very fulfilling, he looks forward to helping students thrive and develop a passion for learning at Shanghai Thomas School.

    Though this is his first time living outside of Scotland, Callum enjoys international travel. He has seen most of Europe and has previously visited Shanghai. He also enjoys reading, hill-walking and playing guitar.

  • Qinghua Zheng  数学教师

    I obtained both of my undergraduate and graduate degree from Virginia Tech (USA) and am certified to teach mathematics in secondary school, from grade 6 to 12. Before I came to China, I was teaching algebra, geometry, and calculus to high school students with various backgrounds and different mathematics abilities. I moved to China in 2014, since then I have been teaching high school mathematics classes, and the courses include General Mathematics, Pre-Calculus, AP Calculus, and AP Statistics. 

     

    In all of my classes, I have constructed and implemented lessons according to the course standards and curriculum framework. In order to engage students, I often utilized real world examples that were relevant to the life experiences of Chinese students. In addition, I explained difficult and abstract mathematics concepts and ideas with layperson English terms, graphs, pictures, and diagrams. Least but not the last, in order to develop and enhance students’ critical thinking ability and creativity, I incorporated Western educational philosophies and methodologies into the classroom instructions and activities.

     

    With my combined mathematics teaching experiences in both China and US high schools, and my passion for educating students with diverse mathematics backgrounds, I believe I will be a great asset in preparing students in the Shanghai Thomas International School for their future success in learning mathematics. I am really excited and looking forward to work with students, colleagues, and administrators in the new school.

  • Valerie Stewart  历史教师

    Valerie was born and raised in San Diego, CA. She attended university at Marquette University in Milwaukee, WI, where she earned degrees in English and education. She began her teaching career in Milwaukee, while doing post-graduate work in education and linguistics. After deciding that six Milwaukee winters were enough, Valerie moved to Los Angeles, CA, where she continued teaching high school. She has taught writing, literature, speech and debate, drama, and social studies. She also coached speech and debate and coached several state and national champions. Valerie enjoys reading, traveling, and is an avid film buff. She’s lived in China almost five years.

  • Isha Wijewardana  生物教师

    I was brought up in Australia, where I undertook most of my primary school education. My family and I then moved to London where I completed my education and achieved a BSc (Hons) in Biomedical Science and PGDip in Education.

     

    Education is a vital and empowering tool that can change the lives of young people. Its pursuit demands and deserves to be challenging, dynamic and joyful. The core of my teaching philosophy is: “If it is going to benefit the pupils then it is worth doing”. Inspired by this, I try to bring my enthusiasm, commitment and, most importantly, my passion into school each day.

     

    With a career that encompasses eleven years as a teacher of Biology, Chemistry and Physics, as well as an enriching year working in the finance industry, I am ready and excited to embark on my next career move. I have always loved travelling and I’ve been drawn to the Chinese culture as I find it enigmatic and beautiful.


    Working at Shanghai Thomas would enable me to experience the true Chinese culture as no other tourist can. It would provide me with the satisfaction of having contributed to a local community. More importantly, I can become a role model that cultivates in young people, open minds, the knowledge and ability to look at the world critically and the belief in one’s capacity to make positive contributions to society.

     

    In my free time, I love dance and performing. I’m also a yogi and I do 5k runs for charity. 

  • Jasmine Danielle Asch-Jones  活动协调员

    I am a Canadian citizen who has a Bachelor of Arts with honours degree in the anthropology program at Carleton University. I currently teach sports at Thomas Shanghai International School where I also share the responsibility of being the homeroom teacher to the school’s first cohort. My teaching Paradigm focuses on student centered learning approaches with an emphasis on interpersonal relationship and interdisciplinary interactions.


    Being a foreigner I have a unique opportunity to provide experiences to the students that they otherwise would not be able to receive. In particular I offer in my class’s opportunities to engage with sports that are uncommon or not present within mainstream Chinese sports classes. Examples include hockey, American Football, Frisbee, Etc. I emphasis learning for the sake of learning and the ability within all students to succeed and better themselves regardless of personal or social barrier.

  • Thomas Kutlow  生物教师

    Thomas Kutlow holds a bachelor's degree from the University of Delaware, as well as a master's degree in Biological Science from Seton Hall University. Before pursuing a career in education, Thomas gained over 7 years of industrial experience in molecular biology and microbiology laboratories in the United States. Thomas has over 10 years' international experience teaching AP, IB and A/S Biology across the United States, South America, Middle East, and Japan.

  • Sally Elliott  外籍校长

    Sally was born and grew up in the UK. She studied Economics and Economic History for her first degree at the University of Leicester; following this she studied for her post graduate teaching qualification and later achieved an MBA in Educational Management. She is an experienced educator beginning her teaching career in Hertfordshire; following this she moved to North Yorkshire where she gained extensive experience in sixth form education. She has worked for two examination boards where she held a number of roles including that of Principal Examiner as well as delivering training across the UK; in addition, she has published a text book and literature for local industry. Sally has taught both Economics and Business Studies to A level and was latterly the Director of Curriculum at a high performing Sixth Form College in the UK.

     

    In her spare time Sally enjoys walking having recently completed both the Cleveland Way and Yorkshire Wolds Way.

  • Danielle Catherine Roberts  英语教师(系主任)

    Danielle was born and raised in St. Louis, MO. She attended Truman State University in Kirksville, MO and earned a Bachelor's of Science in Biology. During her senior, she studied abroad at Nanjing University and developed a love for Chinese culture and world traveling. After graduation, she returned to Nanjing and worked as an English language teacher at Nanjing University Jinling College. While working in Nanjing, Danielle earned her Masters of Education in teaching English to speakers of other languages from the University of Missouri. After 8 years in Nanjing, Danielle and her family relocated to Shanghai. She is excited to work in an environment focused on STEM education, combining her love for science and English language teaching. Outside the classroom Danielle enjoys traveling and spending time with her family.
